NOTD: Eyeshadow Pigments Nail Art/Manicure

Helllllooooooo. Finally back!

I was hoping to hit back with a review of Max Factor's Color Elixir Giant Pen Sticks, but I can't open the photos to edit right now, so I thought I'd share with you this new "pigments" nail art idea that I've found from Bec's (@nailgunxs) Instagram account. The link to the pigments nail tutorial is here.

Nooooooooooo.. I'm not talking about DIY Nail Polishes here.. The idea of 'pigment nails' is to basically apply a base colour, whip on a top coat and [spontaneously] sprinkle on some eyeshadow pigments and then leave to dry.

If you've clicked the link to Bec's post, you would've seen two versions of her 'Pigment Nails' manicure. With inspiration, I've also attempted both the light and dark versions!

For the light version, I've used Ozotic Pro's white nail polish as a base colour, along with two old eyeshadow pigments by Models Prefer. My sister had these loose pigments in her collection for a while now and she was actually contemplating to chuck them out. Lucky she didn't, because I actually don't own too many loose eyeshadow pigments myself!

This manicure was really easy and fun to do! I wished that big green blob on my middle finger didn't happen though... There's no going back guys, so be careful if you're going to attempt this! ~.~

For those wondering whether the pigmentation of the loose pigments matters or not... I'd say it DOES play a role. I've swatched these loose pigments and frankly, they're not the most pigmented. Therefore, when I used the pigments, I had to go over with several layers

It wholely depends on you, I guess -- whether you like the colours dull and faded or bright and intense. On my thumb, I only did one layer and I do like how subtle it looks! ^_^!

As for my dark version.............................................................................

Highlight here ------> I'll show you soon in an upcoming post!

Which base colour would YOU use?
Which colour pigments would pair with that base colour?

If you DO decide to try these 'pigment nails' (or you already have), leave us your link below! Alternatively, you could also tweet me, tag me on Instragram (@the_beautifool) or post it on my Facebook page! ^_^

NOTD: Cartoon Nails

This may just be the hottest trend right now... CARTOON NAILS. Yes, you read right. Cartoon Nails, I said! And I think it made its debut from cutepolish on YouTube. Here's her how-to tutorial:

Lookin'g great, right?

It's actually not hard to do at all! Incredibly easy.. even a nail art noob like me could acheive the look! In my previous post featuring OPI You're Such a Kabuki Queen, I've mentioned that I was in search for a bright pink and it was wholely for this nail art look.

The brightest medium pink I have in my collection is probably Mirenesse Bullet Proof Nail Lacquer in Flapper Pash*.

Besides a nice, poppy, bright pink, I also used a black and white nail lacquer and a thin brush to draw the outline and create the fake white gloss ^_^ Here's my take on it..

Glossy finish

Matte finish

What do you think? Which finish do you like better?

The dots are a bit too large.. I know! :P But I personally think matte looks better. Maybe because the matte look gives it a flat look like REAL cartoon!

Really liked having this manicure on the nails. Got a few compliments for it although Mumma said it's ugly. So untrendy Mummy Pig! Hmmmmph.

Have you tried toon'd nails?
Will you?

[Overdue] Priceline 40% OFF Haul: Australis, Face Of Australia, Sally Hansen & essence

Doesn't matter if you're a beauty junkie or not -- everyone should've heard of Priceline's 40% off cosmetics sale which happened... um.. 3-4 weeks ago? I will smack you if you tell me you had no clue!!!

Of course, knowing me... I didn't hoard home much at all. Not much at all... Yeah. *sarcasm ends here* :P
When I caught the news that Priceline was going to have 40% off all cosmetics, I compiled a list of brands that I was going to check out, which includes:

  • Australis -- We all know... My fave brand!! Yipeee!
  • Face Of Australia -- Their range is generally a tad cheaper than Australis, but their quality is comparable.
  • essence -- NEVER has sales in which I'm assuming is because their products are already SO inexpensive, so you can imagine their price drops with the 40% off!
  • Savvy by DB -- Their products used to be cheaper, but it seemed like the brand had a make-up with a slight price increase. I've always over their blushersso 40% off calls for the perfect chance!

  • Australis Fresh & Flawless Powder in Darkest Brown -- I have this at home and I've already hit pan so it was time to restock! I've only realised now that the shade is too dark for me... Will be going to my sister.
  • Face Of Australia Lip Liner in Sugar Rose -- I've used FOA's mechanical lip liners before and they are creamy, pigmented and fairly long-lasting! Little did I know, I've accidentally picked up the pencil versions.. :( It's such a lovely pink colour though!
  • Face Of Australia HD Liquid Eyeliner -- Reviewed this before and I really like it.
  • Face Of Australia Blush in O Peachy -- Have this at home already. It's golden shimmers makes a lovely highligh on the cheeks! I've purchased this for my upcoming Instagram giveaway (@the_beautifool).

Also snagged 4 nail polishes by essence in Off To Miami, The Boy Next Door, Time for Romance and Date In The Moonlight. They were all less than $2 each! I've been wanting to try essence nail polishes for the loooooooongest time, let me tell ya.

Of couse, I couldn't pass up on lipsticks so easily. Grabbed four:
  • Savvy by DB Matte Lipstick in Guava
  • Rimmel London Lipstick in Pink Blush
  • 2 x essence Lipsticks in More To Love -- One for myself and one for upcoming Instagram giveaway!

Then there's blushers and a foundation stick >_<" Woop. It's starting to feel like it's quite a hoard now...
  • Face Of Australia Stick Foundation -- I LOVE FOA's Lasting Looks Natural Foundation and I know their stick foundations have been raved by a few other bloggers.. I just had to!
  • Savvy by DB Blushers -- Yes! THREE. Two in Rose and one in Silky Pink. The extra is for giveaway.. Yeah. I always hoard home items for giveaway, but there just never seems to be enough time and products to HOST a giveaway! I also really wanted their baked blushers, but a strange force held me back.. Many thanks to that strange force.. Must be Mum's constant nagging of my growing collection >_<"

Before the 40% sale, I also grabbed two nail polishes by Sally Hansen. They were around $4 each! Too cheap to resist!
  • Pacific Blue -- Deemed as a favourite by many and also because I've been into blue nails lately!
  • Green with Envy -- Jaci posted about this yonks ago and I've added it to my wishlist ever since! Hehehehe.. Haven't worn green nails in yonks!

What did YOU manage to basket at Priceline's 40% sale?
Any goodies that you'd like to share?

In all, I spent around $50 with the 40% off. I also grabbed a few other items, but returned them because I felt like I wasn't going to reach for them, therefore, didn't want to add to my existing stash.

Saturday's Swatches: Models Prefer Moisture Lust Lipsticks

WEEKENDS! Hi. Hi.. HI!

Heads up: Today's Saturday's Swatches post is kinda fail..... I'm not even kidding you.

I've had these swatch photos in my SD card for forever, but I've been so caught up with swatch posts of new products that I've totally forgot about these!

It's another one of those swatch-post of items that I don't actually own, so in short, I've dropped by Priceline some time ago, spotted these, swatched them and photographed them to share with you guys...

LOL. Oh... The things I do.

Don't laugh at me pls.

If you could remember, that's also exactly what I did with my posts on Maybelline ColorSensational VIVIDS Lipsticks, Rimmel London Kate Moss MATTE Lipsticks and L'Oreal Paris Caresse Shine Stains.

So here's part 4 of Tram's Store-Swatchin' Series which features Models Prefer Moisture Lust Lipsticks.

There are 8 shades to choose from, ranging from reds to corals, nudes to berries and pinks -- a pretty good shade range, I'd say.

Now.. the thing why today's post is a bit of a fail is because..................... I HAVE NO IDEA WHICH SHADES ARE WHICH! :( I have no idea what their names are, because Silly Tram didn't jot down the sequence of the shades swatched! Eeeeek! SO silly of me!

I think I may have a slight idea though.. If you've used Models Prefer Moisture Lust Lipsticks before and can recognise a shade, then please comment below to help us out! Much appreciated!

Natural lighting

From left to right (my guesses!):

  • Pannacotta (Obviously!)
  • Peach Ice Tea (With reference to swatches from other bloggers)
  • Fairy Floss (I'm pretty sure, because I have this shade at home!)
  • Cupcake (The only pink shade in the range!)
  • Cherry Pie (The only reddish-shade)

There were only 5 shades at my local Priceline, so I'm not too sure why they didn't have the other 3... but these lipsticks looks and feels much like lipstick/balm hybrids, reminding me much of the Revlon Lip Butters... without costing an arm or a leg, of course.

Have YOU tried ANY Models Prefer products?
What do you think of these lipsticks?

Models Prefer Moisture Lust Lipsticks, 8 shades, $11.99, available exclusively to Priceline.

Arbonne Cosmetics Lipstick in Coral Reef

ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER CORAL.

There's never too many corals in my books. I can have thousands and millions and billions of coral lipsticks and I wouldn't be bored. I know my pocket and Mumma wouldn't be too happy though :P

Prior to trialling Arbonne Cosmetics, I've actually never heard of the brand before. Little research gave me an idea that it's actually an independent brand, like Avon and Mary Kay, their products are only accessible through their consultants.

Received three products, but my first to hit up is this coral lipstick!

Thin, black and sturdy packaging. I find that the cap tends to fall off quite often in my bag though! :(

The lipstick itself is much pinker in life, than as the shade preview on the packaging. So the shades aren't exactly spot-on which is a bummer if you're ordering from Arbonne online, methinks.

The formula of this lipstick glides on extremely well. No grips, nor drags. VERY well done in terms of pigmentation -- one light application to hit opacity. I always skip lip balms, because the formula is actually quite moisturising and any additional balm would make this lipstick slip and slide. The texture is very creamy, almost butter-like, which will melt on the lips and sit comfortably throughout the wear time.

I really enjoy wearing this pretty coral shade out and abouts. It's a lovely shade when APPLIED, but also looks really good during its fading stage too! WOO! Would it sound whack to say that I would much prefer the faded colour over the full application of this colour though? Eeek... I think so.

Sadly, it doesn't wear long at all. Not in my books anyways. I'm really not one for constant reapplication, so I do dread to touch up every 2-3 hours.. It's a lipstick that I'd wear if I have to "look pretty" for a short period of time, but definitely not one I'd sport for a long-day wear.

Have you ever heard of Arbonne cosmetics?
Share with me some of your FAVE coral lipsticks!

I sure do enjoy sporting the formula and the shade. Too bad, it didn't make my hit list, but also not THAT bad to be deemed as a "miss".

Arbonne Cosmetics Lipstick, 14 shades, $AUD36, available to purchase from their website.

Sautrday's Swatches: Max Factor Colour Elixir Giant Pen Sticks [Lipsticks]

SURPRISE!!

I bet you're all surprised by Max Factor's new launch of their Giant Pen Sticks from their Colour Elixir range. Don't fret yet.. The prices of these will even be a BIGGER surprise! But let's talk about that later..

When I first heard of these Giant Pen Sticks, I truly thought they were eyeshadow sticks to be used as bases for eyeshadows! But then they arrived at my home (twas a sweet surprise), the range turned out to be lip balmy-crayons!

There are 6 shades in the range and I'd say the shade range is planned out pretty well with decent variations of pinks and a mix of plum, red, coral, and.. err.... bronze?

Hot Chocolate, Intense Plum, Passionate Red, Designer Blossom, Vibrant Pink, Courture Blush

A shade-y run down:
  • Hot Chocolate: Very sheer honey-to-bronze tint with a glossy finish and little shimmers.
  • Intense Plum: Intense, dark plummy colour with shimmers. I think they may be purple shimmers. Not too sure, because they're quite reflective when swatched!
  • Passionate Red: Sheerer warm-toned red.
  • Designer Blossom: Beautiful neutral-to-cooler toned medium red.
  • Vibrant Pink: Quite a vibrant medium pink.
  • Courture Blush: Warmer toned nude pink.

First Impressions: I've only used Courture Blush, and so far and I am very happy with the formula! It's not as slippery on the lips as Face Of Australia's Lip Crayons and that instantly puts a smile on me face. I hate slippery lip products. It turns me off sooo bad.

When swatched, Hot Chocolate and Passionate Red are both quite sheer. The most intense shades are Intense Plum, Designer Blossom and Vibrant Pink. Courture Blush has quite a decent pigmentation, not too sheer, but not exceptionally pigmented. I love how Courture Blush looks on me though!

I've Instagram'ed a photo not too long ago with it on.... --->

Yeap. That's me with Lush's Love Lettuce Mask and Max Factor's Elixir Giant Pen Stick in 'Courture Blush'. SUCH a babe...

Eek.

Anyways, I just feel like Courture Blush is much more flattering on me than other nude-pinks that I've tried. Doesn't make me look like a dead fish which is super lovely!

OK. Now.. to the surprise factor....... The PRICE.......................................... $9.95 EACH! <--- Highlight here to see the price!

I know right?! Besides their nail polishes, Max Factor has nothing for under $10! Finally, they've created something affordable to add to their range so even those beauties-on-a-budget could get taste of what Max Factor is like!!

BIG YAYs and hip hip hoorays!

Are you a fan of these balmy lip crayons?
Which shades are your faves, babes?

To be reviewed soon, so please stay tooned.

Max Factor Colour Elixir Giant Pen Sticks, 6 shades, $9.95, Priceline, Big W and other Max Factor stockists.

NOTD: Illamasqua, Australis, Maybelline & Inglot

I've been MIA on Instagram (@the_beautifool) lately, because I've been quite busy. But! I was hopping around on Instagram the other night and saw that Beauty Heaven was hosting a nail art competition on their Instagram!

I am obviously not the greatest nail art person alive, so thank Lord they've hosted the competition with the most SIMPLE designs to be recreated. Seriously, if they've thrown in some harder designs, then my nail art takes would obviously be out of the question.

Sourced from @BeautyHeaven Instagram

To be honest, I don't even know what's the prize for this competition is. LOL. I am just entering, because it looks fun and it's been a while since I've won something, so I thought I'd try my luck.

For this NOTD/nail art entry, I've used:
  • Inglot Matte Top Coat -- I've used this over Illamasqua Serenity to keep it matte after the glitter top coat on the accent.
  • Maybelline Color Show Nail Colour 'Pedal To The Medal' (silver) -- I've also used this in another recreated nail art design not too long ago. The photos surely does do justice to the reflectiveness of the polish. Very reflective in real life and very foily.
  • Australis Glitter Nail Lacquer in 'Shimmy Shake' -- I also really like this silver glitter! Its silver specks are quite reflective and also looks great over darker blue nail colours.
  • Illamasqua Rubber Brights in 'Serenity' (blue) -- one of my FAVOURITE blues! Initially, I planned to use a darker blue, but I'm glad I did switch to this one! It looks amazing when paired with silver. Posted about it here.

And HERE is the final looooooooook.....

Quick, easy and simple! I can imagine any other colours paired over the silver base and the silver specks! One design fits all! Hehehehe..

Did I win the competition?

Nopeeeeeee.

If you have Instagram, you can search #esteelauderpastelnailart to see entries of others! ^_^

5 Blue Nail Polishes Recommended by YOU!

I love blue nail polishes. It's no secret if you're a regular follower! :P

In my NOTD post which features Australis' Blue Tiger and Shimmy Shake, I asked YOU for recommendation of a blue nail polish, and I've received quite a few feedbacks. With those feedbacks, I thought I'd compile a post of recommendations by YOU to share with those who also share the same love for blue nails.

Here it is, in MAGAZINE style!

I tried my best guys!! How do you like it? Yay or nay for this magazine inspired photo?

I've strayed from using press images for some of the images looked overly-photoshopped ^_^
  • Revlon's Royal -- Tashi shared that she really liked this colour, and Sonni also recommended this as her favourite!
  • OPI's Dating A Royal -- This particular lacquer was recommended by Chloe, where she deemed it as her favourite blue nail polish.
  • Butter London's Blagger -- With a love for blue nail polishes, editor of "thebeautycollection" shared the she always seems to gravitate towards blues when it comes down to choosing a nail colour. Her well-loved blues includes Butter London's Blagger!
  • Sally Hansen's Pacific Blue -- Both Tashi and Sarah recommended this and it sure does looks amazingggg.
  • China Glaze's First Mate -- "Err. CG's First Mate", was all she said. Thanks Amanda. LOL.

Sandvalanche and editor of "thebeautycollection" also recommended Sportsgirl's Cobalt. Shame, I couldn't find a photo of it online, so I couldn't include it! For everyone who owns Sportsgirl's Cobalt, get to posting about it, will ya?!?!? :P

What do you think of the blues recommended?
Feel free to recommend your favourite blues too!

Big thanks to everyone who took the time out to comment and suggest a blue lacquer! All are added to my wishlist, with Sportsgirl's Cobalt in higher priority.

Saturday's Swatches: L'Oreal Colour Riche Les Ombres in Disco Smoking

Taking a fresh breath from all the neutral palettes that I've previously featured, let's look into a slightly bolder palette this week -- L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Les Ombres in Disco Smoking, that is!

This quad was kindly sent to me by Priceline, and my first thoughts when I saw this quad was... "Ok. Black and purples can work.. but how the hell do you work in the mustard yellow shade?". Eek. I guess that's for you to figure, haha..........ha...ha. Ok. That wasn't really funny :(

The Les Ombres quad features 4 eyeshadows and contains a small sponged eyeshadow applicator, which has a round end and an angled end.

Let's go for a shade-y rundown:
  • A true black with slight shimmers. When applied, the shimmers can hardly be seen, so it looks very much like a matte black. It's also a bit patchy when swatched.
  • A shimmery plummy purple
  • A shimmery red-violet. Looked like quite "bruise-y" when swatched.
  • Yellow.. this one's like a cross-breed between mustard yellow and tumeric yellow. It has a very slight orange undertone and it is also of a shimmery finish.

The eyeshadows applies to be fairly pigmented and are best used over an eyeshadow base. There's also little fallout, so beware!

I was kidding when I said it's up to you to figure out how to coordinate the eyeshadows.. haha. There's actually a diagram on the back which gives you an idea of how to use it...

However, being the creative bean I am (jokes!).. I whipped up a look of my own :P Here it is!!!

And here are some MORE glamourous photos....

As you could see, this last photo may just be the most glamourous photo of all 5.

LOL. Just kidding!

But anyways, from the quad, the shade that stood out to me most is the yellow. It makes everything fun and poppy! When I looked at it, I just knew it HAD to be placed in the inner corners!

Have you tried L'Oreal's Les Ombres quads?
What do you think of the selected colours for this quad?

L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Les Ombres, $AUD23.95, 8 different quads, at Priceline.

Drugstore Cosmetics Launches for Australia -- May 2013

WADDUP. Sorry. Late post this month.. I've been jam packed of work, and launch posts are by far, the most time-consuming posts to do!

There are quite a few products this month too, so let's lessen the talk and jump straight into it!

Carmex's Moisture Plus in Peach Sheer Tint
Carmex's Moisture Plus Lip Balms areone of my top favourites when it comes to lip care! Their range consists of one clear balm and another which is pink-tinted. I'm glad to know that there will be another tint added to their existing range, Peach Sheer Tint! ^_^ I'm a fan of everything coral/peachy!

RRP $8.99

Innoxa Lip Glaze & Invisible Lip Shaper
These Antioxidant Lip Glazes are described to nourish, repair and leave the lips looking healthy whilst being non-sticky. The Invisible Lip Shape that comes along "assists in creating pout-perfection" which can also be used as a lip primer... Actually, now that I've thought about it, there has never been a lip primer in the Australian cosmetics market. Eep!

RRP $14.95, 5 shades for Lip Glazes, 1 shade for Invisible Lip Shaper

Hello Kitty Body Mist in Vanilla Ice Cream
Similar to Australis' launch of their body mists last month, Hello Kitty has a spankin' new scent to add to their existing range, called 'Vanilla Ice Cream'.

I LOVE anything vanilla scented, so this may just be the one for me!

RRP $4.99

Face Of Australia GLITTERATI Nail Lacquer Collection
GLITTERS!! I've posted the swatches of their latest collection here. They are right up my alley, and if you're a glitter lover, then I'm sure you'd love these too. They are affordable, and I love the fact that some glitter lacquers consists of squared and barred glitter pieces. It's hard to find squared or barred glitter lacquers here in Australia, so I'm lovin' it!

RRP $4.95, 8 shades.

Australis Go Long Longwear Lipsticks
If you not in for their previously launched Pout Pastes simply because you're a lipstick gal... then I may just have the answer for YOU! They've brought out  lipsticks this time, and they are MATTE. I've already swatched these here, and many others (including myself) agrees that this range consist of quite a few darker and deeper shades. Personally, I don't opt for deeper shades, but if you do, then why not give these a go?!

RRP $12.95

BYS Caviar Nails
I'm not too sure if Caviar nails are still on-trend, but BYS has came out with their own version which is pretty affordable for those who can't get enough of fish-egg manicures ;)

RRP $7.95, 10 shades.

Revlon also released quite a few products...

Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream
Another BB cream for the Aussie beauty junkies! Revlon describes their BB cream to be a light-weight and multi-functional product which combines skincare, make-up and sunscreen in one. Too many times I've heard this said, but not done. Will Revlon's BB Cream be "the one"?

RRP $35, I'm pretty sure there's a few shades, but can't pin point the exact shades available. Eep!

Revlon PhotoReady Primer, Shadow + Sparkle
They've also released 8 eyeshadow palettes in this range which consists of a "smoothing primer, three coordination eyeshadows which can be used wet or dry, and a sparkling top coat". I'm not too sure about the primer. I think it MAY be a "priming eye colour" instead of the actual eyeshadow primer... I'm pretty confused. The "sparkling top coat" is also an eyeshadow shade to be used as an "overcoat".

RRP $25.95, 8 different palettes (bolds & neutrals)

Revlon PhotoReady Skin Lights Illuminators
Illuuuuuminators!! I actually didn't expect this from Revlon! Revlon describes these to be "light-weight liquid illuminators" which were designed to "enhance the skin's natural radiance, boost the skin's natural illuminosity, minimise flaws, enhance the skin with a sheer tint and protect the skin from the harsh environment". Everything on the list is ok... But I honestly don't understand how an illuminator can "protect the skin from the harsh environment". Wuht?

RRP $29.95, a few shades.

On top of that.. This may be old news to you, but Woolworths Town Hall (Sydney) NOW has full-service beauty department! Their newly-launched beauty department includes beauty brands such as Model Co, Essie, St Tropez, L'Oreal and more! I don't think the full-service beauty department are available at any other Woolworths, unfortunately.

What do you think of Woolworths launching a beauty department?
Two in one -- grocery and cosmetics shopping?

What products are you looking forward to trying?

For me, I'm quite over the amount of make-up I have.. so I am not looking forward to any of this month's launches although I wouldn't mind Innoxa's Invisible Lip Shaper or Hello Kitty's Vanilla Ice Cream body spray! Heh!
